Dorset Grandmother Fined £340 For Shaking Rug Out Of Window, Council Cites 'Unauthorised Particulate Release'

A DORSET grandmother has been hit with a £340 fine and a formal warning from council “dust officers” after being caught shaking her hallway runner out of a second-floor window, in what campaigners are calling the latest front in the so-called war on tradition.

Brenda Higgins, 74, was performing her daily routine of beating decades of British grit out of her wool carpet when two Net-Zero compliance wardens swooped on her cottage.

According to official council documents, Mrs. Higgins was reported for emitting “unlicensed particulate matter” and creating an “unauthorized localized aerosol event” that threatened the regional air-quality quota.

“I’ve been banging the dust out of this carpet since 1971,” Mrs. Higgins told reporters while clutching her offending wicker rug-beater. “Now I’m told I’m contributing to the global boiling of Dorset.”

A spokesperson for the council advised residents to vacuum rugs indoors instead, using an approved low-wattage device, “or better yet, replace traditional carpets with reclaimed bamboo flooring.”

The news has sparked fury among local pensioners and common-sense campaigners, who point out that the council’s own diesel-powered dust-monitoring van was idling outside Mrs. Higgins’ home for three hours to issue the ticket.

Undaunted by the legal threat, Mrs. Higgins confirmed she plans to contest the fine in court.

“If beating a rug is a crime, then lock me up,” she declared. “Next thing you know, they’ll make it illegal to blow your nose outside without a carbon offset voucher.”
